Honor loved ones, pay tribute to someone special with a memorial gift

April 22, 2026

During the month of May, in honor of Memorial Day, the Pauahi Foundation is spotlighting a meaningful opportunity to remember and celebrate the lives of loved ones, friends, and colleagues.

One thoughtful way to do so is by making a gift to the Pauahi Foundation in their memory. Through this act of generosity, we honor those who have touched our lives and help create lasting impact for future generations.

Mahalo to the friends, colleagues, and ‘ohana who have made gifts in memory of Mr. John Riggle, who passed away in March 2026. Your kindness and generosity perpetuate his legacy in a meaningful way.

Riggle served as the Kamehameha Schools Kapālama Warrior Marching Band and Color Guard director, making a profound impact on thousands of KS haumāna over more than 30 years of leadership. He guided the marching band and color guard to local, national, and international distinction. Under his direction, students performed throughout Hawai‘i and across the globe at prestigious events, including the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade, Presidential Inaugural Parade, London New Year’s Parade, Orange Bowl Parade, and the Sugar Bowl Halftime Show. He also established the KS Tournament of Bands as Hawai‘i’s premier high school competition.

A dedicated drummer and jazz performer, Riggle earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music education from San Jose State University. After serving as band director at Sunnyvale High School where he led one of Northern California’s top marching bands, he took the reins of the KS Kapālama program in 1977. During his time in Hawai‘i, he also founded Nā Koa Ali‘i All-State Marching Band.

Remembered as “a mentor, kumu, counselor, and friend,” Riggle’s influence lives on through the Mr. John Riggle Scholarship created in his name. This scholarship supports Hawai‘i graduates with band experience as they pursue higher education, helping future generations carry forward their passion for music.

To make a gift in honor and memory of his legacy, please consider a donation to the endowed scholarship, or consider making a gift in memory of a loved one or as a tribute to someone special.
